The first Marriott Hotel in Ireland opened in Spring 2002 as a 148 bedroom 5* hotel with conference facilities and leisure centre, set in a resort complex with a residential development including executive and corporate lodges.
The transitional design was to create an atmosphere of classic comfort, high end specification and modern facilities. The larger than normal bedrooms and generous suites with air conditioning, bespoke cherry wood joinery and, a classic timeless elegance responds directly to the sophisticated tourist demands.
The main entrance to the hotel, with its distinctive and impressive double height architectural forms, gives careful consideration to the treatment of materials, dry granite walls and exposed timber beams with selected Crema Marfil stone flooring and cherry wood panelling, is softened by dramatic textile wall hangings and a mixture of antique and modern furniture.
Two glass pavilions housing one of the restaurants and a lounge with feature open fireplaces, linked by an external timber deck, project the hotel forward towards the magnificent trees and championship golf course. The pavilions were designed with pocket sliding doors that can be closed, leaving selected areas for private parties, or all opened up allowing guests to flow from one area to the next.
The cosy bar finished in mahogany panelling and hand painted stencilled walls creates a slightly more traditional club atmosphere where golfers can relax after a busy day. The meeting rooms and boardrooms are all laid out on the first floor with a prep kitchen on the same level connecting to the main kitchen below. The conference/ballroom has its own entrance and pre-function room and bar.
The leisure centre, integrated into the hotel with its 18m swimming pool, fun showers and hydro rooms, also has a gym and Wellness Centre with seven treatment rooms.
